DEV LOG / EPISODE 3 / WEEK 14

A Stroll Through My Crumbling Sanity

Hey gang, it’s been a week again. Since releasing Maya and Lemon back into the wild, things have gotten a little lonely around here. So I thought I’d take the dog for a walk whilst I talk you through some of this week’s trials and tribulations.

First, numbers, because they’re nice and easy. I got 137 renders done this week, bringing the update total to 1,448. Why no round numbers? I hear you, it’s driving me crazy too. Most weeks I try to land on a satisfying number, but as I came to start the next scene, I ran into an issue that I will ramble about below.

Okay, so remember last episode when I talked about not having the city environment I wanted and having to bash loads of stuff together in Daz to create it? Well, this is kind of like that on rage-inducing steroids. I wanted to show what the outskirts of the city look like to transition between this scene and a later one in the update. The problem is… Daz really sucks for exterior shots. Most of the time you are at the mercy of whatever assets you can find, with limited flexibility and creativity. That’s not to say you can’t create great stuff in there. I did that last episode with the city. But for this, nothing came close to my vision.

Cut to two days later and I’ve been working on the scene in Blender, building environments, briefly considering purchasing film-production-level environment software, and speaking to the rubber duck on my desk to try to get it to talk me out of it. I was unsuccessful. The duck didn’t say a word. I think it’s because I haven’t fed it in weeks. Thankfully Barrabass talked me off the ledge and Maya held me as I sobbed. I am going to persist with what I’m building in Blender.

I’m still unsure how I’m going to incorporate this into the stills for the scene. I also have another scene set in this environment that I’m not yet sure how I’m going to tackle. So tune in next week to see if I have completely lost my mind.

As always, thank you for sticking with me as I explore the limits of the human psyche. Regarding the special renders, it was a draw between Evelyn and Charlie. So… I’ll figure that out somehow.

Have a nice week,
Bat
