DEV LOG / EPISODE 4 / WEEK 2

Everything's Fine

Good morning, Moonlighters.

I know, I know. Last week I said I would do these later in the day, but hear me out.

I don't wanna.

So here we are. I've just had my morning coffee, I am recovering from the night terrors induced by Mister Maya's dev log yesterday, and I remain uncertain whether the heatwave we are experiencing is caused by the global elite or me leaving my render rigs running overnight.

But anyway, less yapping. Let's get on with the meltdown.

You looked stressed. Are you okay?

Nah, everything's fine...

Okay, finally, someone asked.

Fuck me, this week has been a trial. Let me tell you where it all began.

My NAS was sending data to my machines at 1MB/s. Sure, those speeds would have been fine in the 90s when you were trying to download Photoshopped pictures of Seven of Nine wearing nothing but cybernetic underpants. Different times. But by today's standards I could literally feel the Earth rotating while waiting for scenes to load into Daz.

To make matters worse, my computer was crashing more often than my mother-in-law on her way to a knitting convention.

After a day or so of wrestling with that mess, I finally found the root cause. Problem solved, right?

Think again.

Next up: Daz.

Fuck me, this software is trying to push me over the edge, and let's be honest, it wouldn't take much. Something was broken, so I had to completely remove it and reinstall it.

Finally, problems solved. I can get back to work.

That's exactly what I did. Built up a render queue, pushed it to render, and reviewed the first few images that came out.

Would you believe it? Daz 6, which I use to render on my 5090, had decided to start jumbling the UVs on the models in the scene.

So, yay. Another problem to solve.

Fixed that too.

Anyway, with all of that in mind, you'd think I'd be here telling you I didn't get much done.

But I ain't no bitch.

I still managed to get 116 renders done this week, bringing the episode total up to 244 renders so far and finishing the first three scenes.

You'd think by those numbers I'd have enough data to figure out how long this update is going to be.

Nah.

I still have no clue.

This thing is already looking much bigger than the last update, so we'll have to see where we are once I get roughly halfway through the script.

Anyway, I'll be dropping a voting poll later for the higher-tier renders this month. I'll see who's leading by the end of the week and get those renders done.

That's all I've got for you this week, friends.

I'm going back to my corner to continue rocking.

Cheers,

Bat
